What We’re Looking For
We are looking for original perspectives, informed by research, fieldwork, or lived experience. We’re particularly interested in interdisciplinary approaches that connect food systems to broader social, economic, and environmental issues.
We celebrate diversity in voices and topics. Whether your focus is on smallholder farmers, urban agriculture, indigenous food practices, cultural heritage or cutting-edge food technologies, we welcome your unique lens.
Topics might include (but are not limited to):
- Sustainable agriculture and climate resilience
- Food sovereignty and justice
- Innovations in food and agriculture technology
- Indigenous and traditional food systems
- Policy and governance in global food systems
- The intersection of culture and cuisine
- Challenges facing smallholder farmers
- Urban food systems and community gardens
- Ethical considerations in food production and distribution
- Social movements in agrarian spaces
Submission Guidelines
Articles should be between 800-1,000 words. If you have an idea for a shorter or longer piece, let us know, and we’ll be happy to discuss.
While we value depth and rigor, we also prioritize clarity. Write in a way that invites a wide audience to engage with your ideas. Avoid jargon unless necessary and include explanations for specialized terms or concepts.
Use hyperlinks to reference sources wherever possible. If citing books or print materials, include a brief note at the end of your piece.
Types of articles that we are looking for:
- Feature Articles – In-depth explorations of food and agriculture related topics, including investigative journalism and long-form storytelling.
- Profiles – Deep dives into individuals or organizations making a difference in global or community food systems.
- Interviews – Q&A pieces featuring farmers, chefs, researchers, activists, or policymakers.
- Book Reviews – Critical analyses of books to be featured as our book of the month.
- First-Person Commentary – Opinion pieces, personal essays, or reflective narratives to share your lived experience.
- Research Summaries – Condensed, accessible versions of academic studies designed for a general audience.
- How-To Guides – Practical advice on topics such as urban gardening, sustainable cooking, or food waste reduction.
- Historical Perspectives – Articles exploring the history of food traditions, agricultural practices, or food policies.
- Food Policy Analysis – Critical examinations of laws, regulations, and policies affecting food production and distribution.
